Who sent you this letter?" the newly christened JC asked with the gravest intent. "Who discovered this rare information - you must tell me or else our pact is finished."
"The very woman whom you have betrayed," Madeline spat back. "The same person whom I thought might prove to be your redemption...yet I was sadly mistaken."
"Tell me her name this instant or I shall be forced to..."
"...to what? Bray like a jackass?"
And with that query, the Jackal produced a very real pistol, shoving the firearm before a shocked Ms. Maddie's face.
"Still stubborn?" Juan Carlos asked. "Spill or suffer."
"Uhmm...well, the person who sent it to me was...Miss Olivia Peyton. But you have to take me to Château Chien, because even if you do act as though you are saving her, she'll never tell you anything without me along. She won't trust you - she thinks you're a jackass. Honest."
"How did you know about Chien? Nevermind...more drivel I don't care to hear. But now that I know that your brat friend knows where the goods are hidden - and don't think I didn't figure out that you changed the name of the spot to somewhere more obvious - we are going to rescue her, aren't we?" the Jackal advised Maddie at gun point.
The pair soon quit the grounds of Château Columba, headed for the garage, Ms. Madeline praying to the Magdalena that Lexi and friends would be awaiting her arrival at the den of the dogs by eight.
