Chapter Three
The Black Popess

The enigmatic lady known simply as 22 silently read and watched the soterika.biz discussion forum with solemn interest. She was grateful to her friend Miss Olivia for acting as a decoy, through the auspices of Mr. Lone Star, in drawing Ms. Madeline out from the underbrush into the open light. Yet, unbeknownst to our CyberSybil, 22 was the leader of an elite cadre whose membership was watching the chat room performance, as well.

While the great writer, Alexandre Dumas, may have revealed in his works that the Vicar General of the Jesuits was secretly know as the Black Pope, that French author never exposed a more heretical breed of command - the female, gnostic general whispered to be the spiritual force behind an exclusive troupe of women warriors: the Daughters of Maria Madgalena.

Throughout history, this organization (beginning with Mary Magdalene of New Testament fame and tracing its way into Europe to eventually be overseen by the distinguished likes of Joan of Arc, Jeanne de Navarre, Eleanore of Acquitaine, Simonetta Vespucci and numerous other learned ladies whose identities need not be revealed) knew as its sole raison d'etre the protection and preservation of the tenets laid down upon tablets of emerald many centuries before 22 herself assumed the allegorical mitre of a Marie Negre, or, more simply put, the Black Popess.

Now how 22 was chosen and elected for such a singular honor is another story in and of itself; suffice it to say that the judgment was made one fine day in a place known as Rennes-le-Château, another fact totally unknown to either Miss O or her champion, Mr. Lone Star of Texas.
