Mr. Lone Star, as he had on other occassions in the recent past, did not reply.

A dejected Madeline considered calling Prince Vladicule for advice concerning the wayward poster; yet, deciding that discretion was indeed the better part of valor, she stayed up very late instead, sitting next to Aristophanes in bed, sipping a glass of red wine, waiting for the Texan.

"He is driving me to drink all my best bottles of Bordeaux," Maddie whined as she watched the screen glow in the dark, void of commentary. "How dare he promise Egyptian pressies, then totally ignore me, honorary Grand Mistress of the Salamander Society? Well, I'll show him - I'll never answer another of his posts again, ever, and I mean it this time."

Yet, the ever faithful Aristophanes soon began to chirp, and much to her delight, Madeline saw on her laptop's monitor the two words that always brought a smile to her face: LONE STAR.

"The Thems were right - it's him - he came back with my gift! Gosh - its so late - but he did return, most probably after a rough night of card playing or gun-slinging or something equally exciting," the Salamandress giggled.

Many moons ago, cowpokes, I done de-veloped a theory that Isis, one of the most powerful goddesses of Egypt, may also have been a Chemistry Major, as in Al-Chem-Y.

This thought came when I was sittin' 'round the campfire one day, readin' that ol' buzzard Apuleius - this here prayer, in fact, to Isis:

O Holy Blessed Lady,
Constant comfort to humankind,
Whose beneficence and kindness nourish us all,
And whose care for those in trouble is as,
A loving Mother who cares for all Her children.
You are there when we call,
Stretching out Your hand to put aside,
That which is harmful to us,
Untangling the web of Fate in which we may be caught,
Even stopping the stars if they form a harmful pattern.
All other deities, whether bountiful or merciless,
Do reverence to Thee.
For it is Isis who rules the world,
Stamping out the powers of evil,
Arranging the stars to give us answers,
Causing the seasons to come and go,
Commanding the winds to move ships,
Giving the clouds to water the growing seeds,
So that we may have food.

The people of the ancient world adored Isis...respected her above all other goddesses. And why I wondered? Could Isis have been the Queen of Magic because she unlocked the key to atom splittin' or because her book of spells, The Liber Virga, or Book of the Green Twig, was in fact a book of scientific equations, a language the world has done gone and lost? Help, me Miz Estella, fer I am like a dogie, alone on this here trail...

Mr. Lone Star? That was one of the most beautiful tributes I have ever received - how might I help?

Over in London town, they have this here Papyrus called the Medical Papers which states: "This book (the Liber Virga) was found in the night, having fallen into the court of the Temple of Khemmis, as secret knowledge of this goddess, by the hand of the lector of this temple. Lo, this hand was in darkness, and the moon shone on every side of this book."

Khemmis. Sounds slightly like that thar el-Khemmis or Alchemy?

Stay tuned for Carl Jung on Isis - I like to call her Head Cowgirl, kinda like y'all Miz Honey Bee.

"We find the 'medicine of the widow' in the treatise 'Isis to Horus': Berthelot, 'Alch. Grecs', I, xiii, 16."

And, he continues: "Isis...personifies that arcane substance, be it 'dew' or the 'aqua permanens' which unites the hostile elements into one...and since ancient times she was reputed to possess the Elixer of Life (see Diodorus) as well as being adept in sundry magical arts. ...She appears as a teacher of alchemy in the treatise, 'Isis the Prophetess to her son Horus'...She is the moon."

Now we're gettin' somewhere...but first it's hieroglyphic time!

Let's jaw a bit 'bout that thar former supermodel, the Queen of Sheba...keep her in the back of your mind, as she's got a role in ol' Lone Star's windy.

The Egyptian hieroglyph for gold is a spider. The spider has long been associated with goddess ritual worship. Isis, herself, supposedly said: "...the fruit I bore was the sun."

Might that fruit be the gold in them thar hills of Rennes-le-Château?

So, I done did me some more investigatin'. Gold in Egypt went by the name "Nub," drawn as a spider. I saw me a tombstone in RLC once with a spider carved on it, I done did.

So, how does this information tie-in with a maybe "mythical" queen?

The Gold of Sheba: The meeting of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba often appears in medieval art where it is interpreted symbolically.

The source for the story is II Chronicles, 9.1: "And when the Queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bore spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones, and when she came to Solomon, she communed with him all that was in her heart."

Sheba, too, is Sophia - Wisdom. Marie Louise von Franz writes: "She is called, further, the Wisdom of the South or of the South Wind, and is thus equated with the biblical Queen of the South, the Queen of Sheba, who in alchemical tradition was, like Solomon, the author of alchemical works, and was identified with Maria the Jewess, the sister of Moses."

Whoa! Wait a gosh darn minute...I have got me a whole other story 'bout Maria the Jewess, also known as Miriam!

But, before I done go and di-gress, I'd like to point out that our Sheba was queen of that thar land often called...Nubia. As in Nub, Egyptian for gold.

Mebbe our queen was a Priestess of Isis , one mighty fine cowgirl who took a trip to Jerusalem to hang out in King Solomon's mines, otherwise known as that thar Temple, where the famous Ark was housed. And them thar Emerald Tablets.

Why, Easton's Shepherd's Bible Dictionary states: "Sheba is a kingdom in Arabia Felix. Sheba, in fact, was Saba in Southern Arabia, the Sabaeans of classical geography, who carried on the trade in spices with the other peoples of the ancient world."

That mention of Sabaeans really done grabbed me, because I remembered a passage from that thar smart fella, Mr. Jung: "Just as the raven symbolizes man's black soul, so the 'caput corvi' represents the head or skull (testa capitis), which in Sabaean alchemy served as the vessel of transformation."
