Chapter Eight
Sobek & Anubis

Vladicule de Smeardje had not attained the lofty position of Grand Master of the Salamander Society by being a stupid man. And what he observed developing on the forum at soterika.biz caused him to click his long fingernails, and flip greased, long croc locks with an intense urgency.

"Damn that Lone Star - I know a C.I.A. operative when I smell one, yes I do. And Miss Mysterios-O is none other than that notorious esoteric troublemaker, Olivia Peyton. Furthermore, the Daughters of Maria Magdalena just get up my nose," he sighed to his pet iguana, Pindar. "Mary Magdalene was a slut who married a second class carpenter - pretending to be a Rabbi - who was she kidding? I detest militant, feminist Grail cults - they have to be stopped. Estella Dimwit can't do the job, that much is certain, so it looks like I'll have to pay a litle social call, via email, to someone who can. Don Juan Carlos, the Jackal himself."

Vladicule de Smeardje smiled at that particular prospect, very excited to contact a world famous assassin. Yes, the Jackal would prove a perfect foil to Mr. Lone's Star's Texas charms - perfect, indeed.

For Vlad knew he was fulfilling the call of the ancient oracular voice he had heard as a youth - that tantalizing siren who had spoken to him as a boy on holiday with his parents in Alexandria, Egypt. The Smithers family, unaware at that time of their noble Hungarian heritage, had taken little Vladicule to see a wonder of the ancient Roman-Egyptian world - the catacombs located in the city that had once housed the most famous library in the world.
